Linda from Trumpington Meadows Community gives an overview of the special day.
“We were blessed with a perfect day; not too hot and no rain. There were plenty of activities especially for children who could have their faces painted (like a tiger!) and then the opportunity to embark on a minibeast safari before settling down to watch the Disney film, Moana being shown on the outdoor cinema in the Meadows.
There were other things of interest including, photography, football, historical re-enactments, looking after bees, exploring the country park with a treasure trail and using pedal power. Refreshments were available or some brought their own picnic.
Trumpington Meadows Community could be found in their bright blue gazebo labelled Trumpington Meadows. We were raising funds for our community meetings which try to deal with issues on Trumpington Meadows as well as an annual Christmas social event at Anstey Hall. This year we had a raffle with not one, but two Waitrose canvass bags containing wine, fresh coffee and biscuits. The 2 lucky winners were both Trumpington Meadows residents, one in Consort Avenue and another in Mardler close. Thanks go to Grosvenor and Waitrose for their sponsorship for this event.
Our meetings are also sponsored by Cambridge City Council and the new Parish of South Trumpington. All Trumpington Meadows residents are invited to our meetings whether you live in the City ward of Trumpington or the new Parish. On-going issues include parking, the local Park and Ride, maintenance of the development, Neighbourhood watch etc.
Look out for the next invitation to a meeting in the autumn followed by a social at Christmas. Come along and get involved in your community!”
The Discovery Day August 18th 2018 was made possible through the generous sponsorship by Grosvenor and WLTbcn.
