This week was our last volunteer day before the Christmas break. We would usually have had a wonderful outdoor lunch to celebrate but this year, for obvious reasons, we were more restricted and we couldn’t provide food. We still enjoyed ourselves, had a warming bonfire, and everyone bought their own hot drinks and lunch. When not eating or chatting around the fire (at a 2m social distance of course!), we were removing tree guards around Badgers Wood – the majority of the trees are now free!
Trumpington Meadows news
- How are you enjoying a sustainable Christmas? The Trumpington Meadows rangers are big fans of plastic-free paper tape, re-using old Christmas cards for present labels, and avoiding glitter on cards and wrapping paper. More tips here.
- Or maybe you are a bit crafty and are looking for ideas of things to make with the family.
- The reserve flooded last week – the floodplains doing a grand job. Our otter sculpture was able to take his first winter dip in the river! Thanks to Jill for sending in sightings of mandarins and a teal, plus there have been little egrets.
A very Merry Christmas from the rangers!
